The book of 1 John begins with the apostle announcing that he and his friends have achieved street credibility, because they have personally seen, heard, and rubbed shoulders with God! It is their association with God the Father, Jesus and the Holy Spirit that now links them to other friends of God. Moreover, in associating with Jesus they were called (as we are) to follow His pattern of being “friends of sinners”.
Whenever Jesus connected with people He did so without condoning nor condemning. Rather, Jesus was there to make an impact.
He wanted the lost to experience the Father’s lovingkindness that would lead them to repentance … and to help them find their way home!
God associates with us and others on the basis of unconditional love. And the best way to experience this is with others, in a community of practise.
So I look forward to hearing your comments, experiences, and stories of how you are bridging the gap with your neighbours, making disciples, and/or growing missional communities.
